Fenland 50 - Call for Sites 2026

We are holding a Call for Sites and Local Green Space Designation consultation to help shape the new Fenland 50 Local Plan.

Submit a site: Call for Sites 2026

Call for Sites

Landowners, developers, agents and other interested parties are invited to submit sites for a range of uses that could be included in the new local plan to help meet the area's future needs. Sites can be put forward for any use, including but not limited to:

  • Housing (e.g. market, affordable, self and custom housebuilding)
  • Specialist accommodation (e.g. housing for older people, care homes)
  • Land for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople
  • Community facilities (e.g. health, cultural, sport and/or recreation)
  • Employment (e.g. Offices, industrial, storage & distribution)
  • Retail & Leisure (e.g. shops, hotels)
  • Data centres
  • Green infrastructure (e.g. Open space and land for biodiversity including habitat banks)
  • Renewable & low carbon energy generation (e.g. Solar, wind, battery storage)

Please note, sites submitted in previous Call for Sites consultation exercises will not be automatically carried forward. If still available, these should be resubmitted during this consultation.

Local Green Space designation

We are also seeking any candidates for local green spaces (LGS) which are of particular value to a community to be put forward for consideration. Sites previously submitted for LGS designation should be re-submitted. To qualify for LGS designation the green space should be:

(a) in reasonably close proximity to the community it serves;

(b) demonstrably special to a local community and holds a particular local significance, for example because of its beauty, historic significance, recreational value (including as a playing field), tranquillity or richness of its wildlife; and

(c) local in character and is not an extensive tract of land.

Further explanation can be found here: Open space, sports and recreation facilities, public rights of way and local green space - GOV.UK.

The Call for Sites and Local Green Space designation process

To simplify the process, we are asking for submissions via an online platform which enables you to provide your contact details, plot the site boundary and tell us about the opportunities and constraints of the site.

Submit a site here: Call for Sites 2026.

Once you submit your site(s), the site will be subject to a detailed assessment to evaluate whether the site is suitable, available and deliverable. If this is the case, it will be put forward for further consideration in the local plan process as a potential allocation in the new Fenland 50 Local Plan.

It is important to note that submitting a site does not mean that the site will be allocated or that the site is suitable for development. Before sites are put forward for allocation, other evidence and information will be considered and sites will be put through a comprehensive assessment.

The Call for Sites and Local Green Space designation consultation will be open for eight weeks from 5 March 2026 to 30 April 2026.

If you have any questions or require any assistance completing the form, please contact the Planning Policy Team at: PlanningPolicy@fenland.gov.uk
