Twinning
We have an active charter of mutual friendship with Sunshine Coast Council in Australia and historic twinning links with Stadt Nettetal in Germany.
The link with Sunshine Coast was formed in honour of the heroic acts of RAAF pilot Jim Hocking, from Queensland, who died saving the Fenland town of March from catastrophe in 1944, when he refused to eject from his plane to ensure it came down in a field rather than on the town.
For many years, the independent and voluntary Fenland Twinning Association kept up regular exchange trips with Stadt Nettetal in Germany. Sadly, in 2023, the association no longer had enough members to continue and was folded.
