Wisbech play area to get overhaul

A Wisbech play area is to have a complete overhaul with new equipment and surfacing.

Westmead Play Area

Fenland District Council is funding the redevelopment of Westmead Avenue play area, which will grow to host around 25 features aimed at children aged two to eight.

Planned features include a small floor-level trampoline, balance rope and beam, climbing frame with slides, swings and sensory and roleplay panels.

Cllr Jan French, Fenland's portfolio holder for parks and open spaces, said: We're passionate about ensuring Fenland's play areas are great and this is one step in our wider plan to bring improvements and upgrades to parks and play areas across the district."

Cllr Samantha Hoy, a Wisbech District Councillor who has championed the Westmead Avenue improvements, said: I'm delighted to see this project moving forward and that this play area is going to be a much-improved facility for all to enjoy."

The Westmead Avenue play area upgrades which are being paid for out of Council funds are due to be complete this summer.

The current play area equipment is limited and has become tired.

The district council's elected members have laid out plans in their 'Fenland Inspire!' capital investment plan, to invest in other play park improvements across the district. They're proposing to invest £1.5 million of Government Pride in Place funding into other play areas across the district imminently.
