The works are part of Fenland District Council Cabinet's capital investment programme 'Fenland Inspire!'

The works, began on site in November last year, have seen renovation of the changing rooms, including replacement of showers, flooring and painting. Solar panels at the centre have been given an intensive clean to optimise efficiency.

The dance studio has been painted, and replacement of the dance studio floor was completed last month (February).

The installation of a new water tank is due next week. The centre will be closed 8am to 5pm on Wednesday, March 18, to allow completion of the job.

Cllr Steve Count, portfolio holder for Fenland Inspire! leisure centre projects, said: We're passionate about investing in Fenland's leisure centres to ensure they can continue to support the health and wellbeing of our residents long into the future. Our thanks to Freedom Leisure which runs the centre for us for its support in allowing the works with minimal disruption to customers and to all the leisure centre users for their patience throughout."

Cllr Susan WallWork, portfolio holder for Freedom Leisure, said: We know how much our leisure centres mean to our communities and we've been delighted to work alongside Freedom Leisure to make these improvements."

Freedom Leisure has also been carrying out a repair programme for lockers at the centre.

Updates regarding the March 18th closure will be provided by Freedom Leisure.

Paul Doyle, Freedom Leisure's Regional Manager, said: Everyone at Freedom Leisure, together with the team and customers at Chatteris, would like to thank Fenland District Council for their continued commitment to health and wellbeing and for their investment in the recent upgrades to the centre. These improvements demonstrate a shared ambition to support healthier, happier communities and ensure residents of all ages can continue to enjoy a high-quality, welcoming and inclusive facility."
