Detailed plans are to be drawn up in consultation with elected members and communities across the district to identify where the money can be best used.

The Council will fund the project through an award from the Government's Pride in Place Impact Fund. The funds must be invested by March 2027, Cabinet heard.

Improving play equipment across the district was identified as a Council priority for investment through the 'Fenland Inspire!' priority list of investment drawn up by Cabinet.

On Monday (Dec 15), Cabinet agreed assessment work will be undertaken to identify sites. A report with recommendations on the specific projects to be undertaken will then be returned to Cabinet for consideration.

After the meeting, Cllr Jan French, the district council's portfolio holder for parks and open spaces, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for Fenland.

"This investment will make a tangible difference to the open spaces that are so valuable to our communities and we're eager to ensure the investment is spread across the district."
