Discover new places and new faces - for free - with Fenland's new Travel Buddies project
Fenland District Council is encouraging older residents to take advantage of an exciting opportunity to explore the local area, meet new people, and gain confidence using public transport - all completely free of charge.

The Council's new Travel Buddies project, funded by the Cambridgeshire County Council Care Together team through the Older Adult Social Inclusion grants, offers days out aimed at helping people to confidently and independently use local transport, especially when driving is no longer an easy option.

Participants can enjoy discovering new places and making social connections - with the reassurance of being accompanied by friendly, helpful travel buddies.
The trips use either public or community transport and are open to people aged 65 and over who live in Fenland and do not receive full-time care.
Following a successful first trip to the cinema earlier this year, the next outing is planned for Thursday 26 June - and there are still a few spaces available.

Fenland District Council Leader, Cllr Chris Boden, said: "The Travel Buddies project is all about building confidence, reducing isolation, and making travel fun and accessible again for our older residents. It's a fantastic way to try something new, socialise, and explore - and best of all, it's completely free!
"Whether you're curious about hopping on a bus again, fancy a day out, or simply want to meet others in a safe and supported setting, Travel Buddies can help."

Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If a trip is fully booked, don't worry, you'll be offered a space on the next available outing.
In addition to organising trips, the Travel Buddies team can also provide helpful travel advice and signpost to local organisations that offer care and support for older people.
