Memorial Safety
We undertake a rolling programme of memorial assessments
Trained staff check memorials to make sure they do not pose a potential or immediate danger to cemetery users.
Memorials that are potentially unsafe
We will attach a yellow band to a memorial that is considered potentially unsafe. This asks the Exclusive Rights holder to contact a qualified memorial mason to undertake the necessary works to make the memorial secure.
Where known, we will write to the Exclusive Rights holder to advise them that their memorial is likely to become unsafe and needs work to improve its condition.
Memorials between 0.8m-1.8m that are unsafe now
A yellow band will be attached to a memorial that is judged to be an immediate danger to the public at the time of assessment. It will ask the Exclusive Rights holder to instruct a qualified memorial mason to address the issue.
Where the memorial is considered to pose a significant risk of injury, FDC will make the immediate area safe by whatever means they deem appropriate.
Where known, we will write to the Exclusive Rights holder to inform them of this.
Please note, if a memorial does not have a living registered owner, a family member can arrange any necessary repairs.
