Decision details

Purchase of buoys to mark the newly opened channel

Decision Maker: Harbour Master and Head of Marine Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To purchase six special yellow marker buoys and associated lights and anchoring equipment from Eastern Instore Fisheries and Conservation Authority at a reduced cost to FDC of £6,000 to replace current equipment and have spare capacity.

Reasons for the decision:

Ports require buoys and lights for several reasons:

  • Navigational safety
  • Clear communication
  • Visibility
  • Regulatory Compliance (COLREGS, IALA)
  • Environmental protection

Alternative options considered:

No other alternatives are available at the price being offered due to the demise of suppliers in the local areas of such equipment. To source the buoys elsewhere would be very costly to the council.
