The Wisbech Port Authority team at Fenland District Council are looking for a Marine Pilot to undertake pilotage to our two Ports at Wisbech and Port Sutton Bridge.

The role requires the successful candidate to take responsibility for the safe pilotage of a variety of commercial vessels along the port limits of Wisbech and Port Sutton Bridge or within the local pilotage district- any time during the night or day complying with all current legislation - being available for immediate call out 24 hrs a day 365 days per year, once trained, on a rostered basis.

As well as pilotage, you will be required to provide support to the Harbour Master and the operations of the Marine Services team in supporting the review and safe implementation of the Port Authority's Marine Safety Management system and accompanying systems of work. You will manage the safe movement of vessels within the harbour limits and ensure documentation and certification is in line with the Port Marine Safety Code.

Other duties include tug towing, dredging, bed leveling, buoy laying, maintenance of navigational aids, search and rescue, patrols, towing of leisure craft and hydrographic surveying so a background of working in commercial craft maintenance and repair and sound seagoing experience is essential. Local knowledge of the waters of the Wash is highly desirable.

You will be 'On Call' for emergency response when required. Experience on smaller vessels such as tugs/dredgers would be desirable, but not essential as Full Training to Pilot Authorisation will be offered.

An ability to work flexibly and during unsocial hours particularly around spring tides including weekends is essential. This is a small, dedicated team where a flexible approach to working to achieve our objectives is important.
