Asset Officer (Engineering) - Closing 09.10.2023
Permanent - Hybrid working
Full time 37 hours per week
Salary range £28,371 to £36,298
Closing date 9th October 2023
A rare opportunity has arisen at Fenland District Council within its Engineering Team, who are seeking a suitably skilled individual to fulfil a new Asset Officer role ensuring all Council-owned highway-related assets are suitably managed and maintained. The new role will join a small Engineering Team, working on a diverse range of work and support services, delivering the Council's ongoing repairs, maintenance, and improvement work priorities.
The role offers the opportunity to work alongside engineers and to learn and experience a range of engineering disciplines whilst contributing to maintaining and improving the streetscene for Fenland residents.
To support these aspirations the Council intends to resurvey all its engineering-related assets and the post holder will play an instrumental part in ensuring the assets are digitally mapped along with developing a suitable asset management system. Depending on the level of experience, the post holder will also play an important part in the development and implementation of small repair, maintenance, and replacement work schemes.
The Council will provide training where required but it is essential that the post holder is flexible, brings the right blend of skills and experience and has a willingness to learn. Ideally the applicant should be someone with either a highway, or asset management background. Experience of working within Local Government or a public sector organisation would also be advantageous.
The post is career graded so progression to the higher level will be dependent on having gained both the appropriate knowledge and skills required and completed any associated training specific to the role. Typical duties will include:
- Undertaking asset site inspections and condition surveys
- Collating asset data and developing asset management systems
- Responding to fault reports and obtaining work quotations for asset repair and replacements
- Undertaking small improvement or maintenance work schemes from concept to completion
At the entry level you will be required to have a good understanding of highway-related assets, asset management systems and condition survey requirements. The ability to develop and manage an asset management system and lead on digitally mapping assets and collating condition survey data would be advantageous. You will also be capable of undertaking site based asset inspections and surveys.
As you progress, you will be required to have a good understanding of highway construction methods, street lighting, CDM Regulations and be able to deliver minor engineering improvement schemes from concept to completion with little supervision. Be able to undertake asset condition surveys and make informed decisions for repair, replacement and improvement works.
Now could be your opportunity to help shape the way these services are delivered, contributing to improving the streetscene and be part of a small team delivering this varied and interesting work.
Key requirements
You will need to be committed to learning, self-motivated and able to multi-task, prioritise and manage a varying workload.
The ability to take ownership and be able to work independently and as part of the team.
Have excellent communication skills and can adapt to the needs of your audience.
Ability to travel to various locations within the district.
