Information for Voters

Registering to Vote

The deadline for registering to vote is Monday, 17 April 2023.  To register, please visit Register to Vote.

Poll Cards

Poll cards were issued to registered electors after the Notices of Election were published on 20 March 2023.

Poll cards look a little different this year - instead of an A5 card, they are now an A4 letter in an envelope. This is due to the list of suitable forms of photo ID acceptable at a polling station.

The poll card also explains where you need to go to vote. Following a review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, ward boundaries in Fenland have changed, so you might be in a different ward and voting at a different polling station.

Please check your poll card to see if your polling station has changed or check your polling station online.

Your poll card will also help you understand what you can do if you are unable to attend the polling station.

You do not need to bring your poll card to the polling station to vote, but you will need to bring photo ID.

Voter ID

The Elections Act has brought in requirements for voter photo ID for the first time this year. Find out more: Voter ID.

Electors with Disabilities

An Easy Read Guide to voting in the Local Elections on 4 May 2023 has been produced by The Electoral Commission:  Voter ID - Your Guide - Easy Read (PDF) [1MB]

New rules mean an elector with a disability can choose anyone aged 18 or over to accompany them in the polling station to help them vote.

The companion will need to complete a form at the polling station.

Polling Stations

The hours of poll are 7am to 10pm on Thursday, 4 May 2023. Please check your poll card for the location of your polling station or check your polling station online.

Postal or Proxy Voting

You must be registered to vote to apply for a postal or proxy vote (so must your proxy).

You can download an application form to vote Apply to vote by post or an application form to vote by Apply to vote by proxy.  Once you have completed the form and signed it, please send it to the Elections Team at Fenland District Council, County Road, March, Cambs, PE15 8NQ or contact the Elections Team to arrange for a form to be sent to you.

APPLY NOW - APPLY EARLY - If  you are thinking about voting by post or proxy, you can apply to do this now, it is never too early, this will help us manage the expected increase in applications.  It will also ensure that your postal vote pack can be sent to you at the earliest opportunity once the candidates for the elections are confirmed.

If you already have a postal or proxy application in place you do not need to apply again.

If you would like to apply for a postal vote for the elections, the deadline for new applications, or cancelling an existing postal voting arrangement or changing an existing proxy arrangement, is 5pm on Tuesday, 18 April 2023.

If you would like to apply for a proxy vote, this means someone voting on your behalf, the deadline for applying for a new proxy arrangement is 5pm on Tuesday, 25 April 2023.
