Fenland councillors welcome opening of new Tesco store

Tesco opened its new supermarket in Chatteris on Thursday (7 April).

Fenland District Council Leader, Cllr Chris Boden, and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Cllr Ian Benney, attended the official opening of the Fenland Way store, which replaces the former Jack's discount shop.

Cllr Benney, who is also a ward councillor for Chatteris, said: "It's great to see Tesco investing in Chatteris. It means more competition in the town, which means lower prices in these economically-pushed times.

"It's very good for local people and I also think there will be more development on this site. I'm also very pleased to see the Tesco Finest range introduced as that brings a different choice of shopping."

At the opening, Tesco also presented cheques for £250 to Magpas air ambulance and the Cam Sight charity, with funds raised through its Tesco Community Grant scheme.
