Freedom Leisure has appointed Angela Brown to the newly created role in a bid to secure its commitment towards a greener future.
Brown will join the Senior Leadership Team and will play a key role in driving the sustainability and environmental efforts at all levels across the group.
Freedom Leisure, a not-for-profit leisure trust, was set up with a simple mission - to "improve lives through leisure". The organisation has always been acutely aware of its responsibility to carry out this mission in an environmentally friendly manner and has a proud record of investment in energy saving plant and equipment - as well as the implementation of a whole range of sustainable initiatives to minimise its impact on the environment.
Ivan Horsfall-Turner, Chief Executive Officer - Freedom Leisure stated: "We have been working hard for many years to reduce our carbon footprint and our costs with much success. Whilst we believe our work in this area is already highly regarded by our Customers, Clients and staff team - we believe we can, and will, do much more with Angela on board."
Cllr Sam Clark, Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing and Leisure at Fenland District Council, whose leisure facilities are managed by Freedom Leisure, welcomed the appointment.
She said: "Four years ago we invested over £800,000 into our leisure centres to upgrade their energy systems, helping to reduce carbon emissions and energy bills. Now, with an even greater focus on creating a greener future, I'm pleased Freedom Leisure is taking a proactive approach to managing its environmental impact and to further improve sustainability efforts at our leisure centres."
Brown's career in environmental sustainability extends over three decades. During this time, she's been recognised for her achievements in the development of environmental solutions in both the public and private sector. She has worked with many blue-chip clients and large local authorities, supporting their sustainability efforts through the development and implementation of solutions to improve their environmental sustainability performance.
Brown has extensive experience in projects from concept stage through to implementation and is particularly passionate in her involvement with environmental projects which have real impacts on the quality of life of local communities.
Freedom Leisure operate 108 leisure, cultural and entertainment venues across England and Wales working on behalf of 25 local authority partners to deliver their services. Visit their website to learn more.
