Pride in Fenland 2021: Nominations are now open for your pandemic heroes

The time to nominate your unsung community heroes from across Fenland has arrived as the annual Pride in Fenland Awards return for their 14th year.

Pride in Fenland

Organised by Fenland District Council and the Fenland Citizen newspaper, with support from sponsors, the awards celebrate the local volunteers who make a difference in our community and give them the recognition they deserve.

Nominations for the 2021 Pride in Fenland Awards are open to all volunteers, community groups and young people in Fenland, including those that went above and beyond to support local residents throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

To allow for more nominations related to the coronavirus pandemic response, this year the awards will be split into three categories:

  • Community Group - Open to all community groups, large and small.
  • Good Friend - Open to any individual who has volunteered their time to help others.
  • Young Person in the Community - Open to any individual or group of individuals aged 21 years and under.

There is also the Special Judges' Award which is chosen by the Fenland Citizen from the nominees of all of the above categories.

Cllr Sam Clark, Fenland District Council's Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: "The Pride in Fenland Awards are one of the most important events of the year for us because it is our chance to acknowledge the fantastic work our volunteers and carers do, and show how much we, as a community, appreciate their dedication."

"So many people went above and beyond during the pandemic and these awards are a great way to give those incredible people the recognition they so thoroughly deserve."

Nomination forms will be printed in the Fenland Citizen and they can be returned to the Fenland Citizen offices at 4 Francis St, Spalding, PE11 1AT. You can also nominate online at: www.fenland.gov.uk/prideinfenland

The closing date for nominations is 5pm on October 4 - so get nominating your community heroes now!

The award ceremony itself is currently set to premiere on the Council's YouTube channel in November and further details will be provided in due course.
