Nominations open for forthcoming elections

Nominations open today, Friday, 26 March, for the forthcoming elections to Cambridgeshire County Council and five local by-elections, which take place on Thursday, 6 May.


Fenland District Council published the official Notices of Election yesterday afternoon, 25 March. Prospective candidates looking to run in the elections now have until 4pm on Thursday, 8 April, to submit their nomination to be included on the ballot papers on polling day.

Nominations must be hand delivered to the Council offices at Fenland Hall, County Road, March. An appointment must be made prior to the visit by calling 01354 654321 or email:

Nomination packs, containing all the necessary information candidates need to be aware of, including all the forms that need to be submitted as part of the nomination process, are now available on the Elections webpage. Alternatively, a hard copy can be requested from the Council's elections team.

The Elections being held locally on Thursday, 6 May, are:

  • Police and Crime Commissioner Election - Cambridgeshire (postponed from May 2020). For information regarding nominations for this election, visit the East Cambridgeshire District Council website.
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Mayoral Election. For information regarding nominations for this election, visit the East Cambridgeshire District Council website.
  • Cambridgeshire County Council (Election for nine County Councillors across the eight county division areas within Fenland)
  • By-Elections to fill vacant seats on the following parish, town, and district councils:

-       Lattersey Ward of Fenland District Council

-       Lattersey Ward Whittlesey Town Council

-       Stonald Ward of Whittlesey Town Council

-       Octavia Hill Ward of Wisbech Town Council

-       Tydd St Giles Parish Council

  • To vote in the elections people must be on the electoral register. While the deadline for voter registration for the upcoming elections is Monday, 19 April, residents are urged to act now. You can register to vote quickly and easily here.
