New Licensed Driver application

A new driver application can take a minimum of 3 months to complete. This is because it depends on the results of the DBS, DVLA check and the knowledge test. No new driver will be issued a licence until all of the results of the checks are received.

How to apply

When you're ready to submit your application, contact the Licensing team to request an appointment. You can do this by emailing licensing@fenland.gov.uk or calling 01354 654321. 

A Licensing officer will then contact you to arrange a suitable date and time. You can choose whether the appointment takes place in March or Wisbech. 

You must bring all of the documents listed below at your appointment. 

Document checklist

You need to submit your:

* An identity document could be a valid passport, recent utility bill/bank statement, birth certificate, marriage certificate or proof of national insurance number.

Fees

Hackney Carriage Driver

  • 1 year fee - £114.00
  • 3 year fee - £234.00

Private Hire Driver

  • 1 year fee - £114.00
  • 3 year fee - £234.00

Knowledge Test

During your appointment the officer will discuss the knowledge test requirement with you. They will advise you of the next available dates.

Your fee allows you to take the exam and one re-test. After this, you must pay the fee again before you can continue with your application. 

When attending your knowledge test, you must bring along proof of ID e.g driving licence or passport.
