Cambridgeshire County Council was awarded funding from the Government for a project in Wisbech during 2015/2016 from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The project included Sustrans undertaking cycling work with schools and the County Council Travel to Work Unit working with employers in Wisbech to encourage more sustainable travel for commuting. The 3rd element was the Wisbech travel choices project. This project, managed by the Fenland Strategic Partnership Transport and Access Group (TAG) worked with the local community, enabling people to better understand the transport choices available.

Why do we need to promote walking, cycling and use of public transport?

Encouraging people to use more of these options reduces the congestion on our roads, improves physical well being and decreases the negative impact that high commuting demand has on our environment. Ensuring demand for cleaner and cheaper transport options remains high, we can encourage more investment into improving these options and make them accessible for as many residents as possible.

What were the key aspects of the Wisbech travel choices project?

Over the course of the 12 month Wisbech travel choices project we encouraged residents to walk, cycle and use public transport using the following methods.

·        Producing and circulating a Wisbech travel information pack

·        Road shows, meetings and events locally throughout the year

·        A Personal Travel Planning exercise working with local residents in specific streets in Wisbech

·        Stocking key venues in Wisbech with relevant travel and transport information

Events

Through out the year we attended 17 events all over Wisbech and in surrounding villages. We engaged with more than 1500 residents, offered transport advice and guidance, recorded feedback on transport issues and concerns and distributed over 4000 transport information packs.

We would like to thank everyone who completed a survey and residents who completed  a travel diary . The prize draw winners from the Transport Diaries were contacted between the 15th and 22nd March 2016.
