Health and Safety Services

The Health and Safety Officers at Fenland work within the Food and Safety Team. Our Officers carry out regular health and safety checks on offices, shops, warehouses, premises used for leisure activities and other non-industrial premises.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), deal with factories and other commercial activities.
Fenland District Council and the HSE often work together to ensure healthy and safe working conditions for all employees and the public. As with food safety, health and safety inspections are often carried out without prior notification to the owner of the business. The higher risk premises are visited more frequently.
During an inspection, Officers will need to be:
- Satisfied that any hazards to health, safety and welfare, have been identified
- Satisfied that the risks in the workplace are adequately controlled.
They will also look at the level of health and safety training of managers and employees to ensure it is suitable.
Fenland: Working with Local Business Towards Compliance
Where Health and Safety at Work practices or conditions are considered unsatisfactory by the inspector every attempt will be made to resolve the situation by informal means.
If this is not possible, or if the danger in the workplace poses a risk of serious personal injury, officers can resort to formal action. This could involve the service of a legal notice. These actions are rare and officers work closely with the business owner at every opportunity to ensure compliance and safety for all.
