Fairgrounds

Persons wishing to operate a fair on Council owned land are required to apply to the Council for permission prior to the holding of the event.

The Council will ensure that all the rides have been properly inspected and insured prior to the event opening to the public. There are Byelaws applicable to the operation of Fairs within Fenland - please see 'Related link'.

There are usually nine funfairs held throughout the year within the Fenland District.

These are:

Wisbech Mart which is held during the first two weeks of March each year - see dates shown below. It occupies the whole of Chapel Road Car Park, part of Somers Road Car Park and the Western half of the Market Place for a period of two weeks. The Fairground rides and stalls are sited on the Market Place and in Chapel Road Car Park. This Fair is operated by 'The Showmens Guild of Great Britain'.

March Spring Fair which is held in mid March- see dates shown below, following the departure of the Mart from Wisbech . This Fair occupies part of City Road Car Park and is on site for two weeks. This Fair is operated by 'James Dean and Sons Fun Fairs'.

Whittlesey Spring Fair which is held in March or April - see dates shown below. This Fair occupies the rear part of Eastgate Car Park (and The Market Place from Wednesday evening) until Sunday morning. Rides and stalls are sited on the Market Place. This fair is on site for one week and is operated by 'The Showmens Guild of Great Britain'.

Whittlesey Summer Fair which is held in May or June - see dates shown below. The site details etc. are the same as Whittlesey Spring Fair. This fair is on site for one week and is operated by 'The Showmens Guild of Great Britain'.

Chatteris Summer Fair which is usually held in May or August - see dates shown below. This Fair occupies the rear section of Wenny Road recreation ground and is on site for two weeks. This Fair is operated by 'James Dean and Sons Fun Fairs'.

Wisbech Statute Fair which is held in September - see dates shown below. This fair occupies the whole of Chapel Road Car Park and part of Somers Road Car Park. The Fairground rides and stalls are sited in Chapel Road Car Park. This Fair is on site for one week and is operated by 'The Showmens Guild of Great Britain'.

March Statute Fair which is held in September each year - see dates shown below. This Fair occupies the whole of City Road Car Park and the adjacent Lorry Park. The Fair is usually on site one week and is operated by 'Stanley Thurston and Sons'.

Whittlesey Autumn Fair which is held in September each year - see dates shown below. The site details etc. are the same as Whittlesey Spring Fair. This fair is on site for one week and is operated by 'The Showmans Guild of Great Britain'.

Chatteris Hallowe'en Fair.  This is a new fair that started  in 2009.  It is intended to be sited in Wenny Road Recreation Ground.  However, if underlying ground conditions make this impossible, it will be resited into Furrowfields Car Park - see dates shown below.
