Street Cleaning Programme

Streets Ahead road sweeper

The Council is responsible for keeping the area clean and free of litter.

We will:

  • Continuously clean town centres
  • Clean main roads on a regular frequency
  • Clean other roads on a programmed frequency
  • Remove litter and accumulations of rubbish from Council land
  • Empty litter bins on a frequency that occurs before they are full
  • Help with your locally organised clean-ups
  • Sweep kerbed roadways.

You can help us by:

  • Being tidy and not dropping your litter, chewing gum, and cigarette ends
  • Using the free Household Waste Recycling Centres
  • Having waste collection contracts for your business
  • Not leaving your dog's mess for others
  • Not "Fly Posting" or writing graffiti - it's untidy and illegal
  • Not parking where you want us to clean.
  • Using the litter bins provided
  • Taking your litter home with you
  • Ensuring litter is not caused by overfull or uncovered waste or recycling containers waiting for collection at your property

A further 1924 fly tipping requests were received between April 2005 and March 2006 achieving a total of 98% being dealt with within target.
