The 5 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, Repair

Before you dispose of your waste by recycling, is there any thing which you could do to minimise it in the first place? There are many ways of cutting down your waste and reusing the waste we generate. Minimising the amount of waste you create and therefore have to dispose of will help to protect the environment. For instance you can take your own bags with you when you go shopping.

To find out more on cutting down on waste follow the links to various websites.

Schools' Environmental Education Programme

We've started a new way of working with schools, as the 'Schools Pride Team', to make sure that no school is left out, and to broaden the subjects that we can offer, together with partner organisations.Recently we wrote to all schools to offer our Recycling Assembly. Lots of schools have already contacted us to book an assembly, and we can book for next school year, so if you'd like us to come to your school to talk about recycling, composting, litter, or general sustainability themes, please give us a call on 01354 654321 and ask for Recycling / Streetpride / Climate Change / Biodiversity.

Garden Waste

If your brown bin isn't enough, our household waste and recycling centres (run by Cambridgeshire County Council) will take your excess greenery, cuttings, dead wood, etc. It will still all be sent for composting. See links on this page to locations and opening times.

Or why not buy another composter? Follow the 'Buy Compost Bins' link on the right.

Free Compost Collection

Please note that from Monday November 2nd, free compost will be at the new March waste transfer station, Melbourne Avenue, PE15 0EN, not at Algores Way site in Wisbech. Further details on opening times etc can be found at www.donarbon.com/compost-collection .

Ink Cartridge and Mobile Phone Recycling

Fenland District Council in association with Cambridge Community Re-use and Recycling Network (CCORRN), and ‘Cartridges4Causes’ has provided disposal points for computer ink cartridges and mobile phones for Fenland residents.

The bins are in the four ‘At your Service’ shops in March, Chatteris, Whittlesey and Wisbech. In addition there is a bin at the Business reception in Fenland Hall, and at the ‘Fenland Area Community Enterprise Trust’ (FACET) shop in Darthill Road, March.

The money from the sale of the cartridges will be going to locally-run charities: ‘Branching Out’, ‘Hope project’, FACET, Chernobyl Children’s Project; and Cambridgeshire Food Project.

All mobile phones are acceptable; please include chargers if you have them. Branded ink and toner cartridges (not shop ‘own brand’) are recyclable, but unfortunately we cannot accept Epson cartridges, toner bottles or ribbon cassettes.

Using these bins for recyclable cartridges will prevent more waste from going to landfill, conserve resources and raise money for local charities.
