Elections in Fenland
This service is located in the Democratic and Legal Services Unit, where elections staff are responsible for the conduct of all District and Parish Council, County, Parliamentary and European elections and referenda in the District. You can only vote at elections if you are registered to vote. Please refer to the section on Electoral Registration for more details on the electoral register.
Fenland District Council
The District Council hold elections for the whole of the Council every four years. The District is divided into 27 electoral wards and 40 councillors represent those wards. Click here to view existing councillors.
The date of ordinary elections is usually the first Thursday in May.
Cambridgeshire County Council
Following an electoral review in 2003, Cambridgeshire County Council will have 69 councillors elected on 5 May 2005 from across the County to make decisions about county-wide services (such as education, social services and highways). The Fenland District Council area will have 11 county councillors who serve for four years.
Parliamentary
The District Council organises the elections for the North-East Cambridgeshire Parliamentary constituency. This constituency covers the same area as the District boundary but also includes Newborough, Thorney and Eye to the north-west and parts of East Cambridgeshire District (Littleport, Mepal and Sutton) to the south.
Parliamentary elections are held on a date decided by the Prime Minister, which must be within 5 years of the last general election.
European Parliament
The Council also organises the European Parliamentary elections in the Fenland District Council area. There are nine electoral regions in England and the District falls in the Eastern Region. There are eight members of the European Parliament representing the Eastern Region.
European Parliament elections are held every 5 years on a date fixed by the European Parliament.
