Tributes paid to Councillor Les Sims
Staff and Members at Fenland District Council are very saddened to hear of the sudden death of Councillor Les Sims.
As well as being a longstanding Wisbech town councillor, he served as a Fenland District Councillor for the Kirkgate ward of Wisbech after being elected in May, 2003, and was a member of FDC’s Licensing Committee and the Overview and Scrutiny Panel. He was also a Cambridge County Councillor for Wisbech North.
Cllr Ralph Butcher, Chairman of Fenland District Council, said: “Cllr Sims was an old-fashioned, pure gentleman who was well known all around the district. He was very knowledgeable and when he spoke about something, people always listened - everyone had a very high regard for his views. Nobody had a bad word to say about Les - everybody knew, respected and liked him.”
Cllr Alan Melton, Leader of Fenland District Council, said: "I’ve known Cllr Sims since he was elected to FDC. He was one of the kindest, most thoughtful men I have ever met and he was totally dedicated to local affairs, particularly around Wisbech. He will be very sadly missed."
Fenland District Council’s Chief Executive Tim Pilsbury said: "Les was always a real gentleman and conducted himself with the utmost integrity. He dedicated a large part of his life to public service in Fenland areas and he will be much missed. The thoughts of Council staff go out to his family and many friends throughout Fenland at this sad time."
