Fenland District Council has made striking improvements to the facilities at Wisbech Park, providing five beautifully-designed site maps at all five park entrances and one large notice board, at a cost of £15,000.

The council invited the Mayor of Wisbech, Cllr Carol Cox, to unveil the new signage. Also attending was Chairman of the Wisbech Friends Group, Simon King and the council’s Parks & Open spaces Manager, Bob Ollier.

The new signs are part of a major refurbishment under the council’s Streets Ahead commitment to achieve Green Flag status for the park. The Green Flag award is a national standard for excellence for parks and open spaces.

The council has already improved the footpaths leading to, and around the bandstand and eight new benches are set to be installed later this month.

Cllr Peter Murphy, Portfolio Holder for Streets Ahead, said: “The park was one of our priorities and it is now an attractive and safe environment for the people of Wisbech to enjoy. Council staff have worked very hard to bring the park up to Green Flag standard and I would hope we are soon in a position to formally achieve the award.”
