Setting Pop-up Exceptions for Internet Explorer 6.0 Browsers

One of Internet Explorer’s (IE) features is to automatically block unsolicited pop-ups. This is available in Internet Explorer 6.0 with Microsoft XP Operating System and Service Pack 2 applied. By default this feature is enabled.

It is possible to disable this feature for particular websites (i.e. www.fenland.gov.uk)

Verifying the Pop-up Blocking Feature: To determine whether your browser is running the pop-up blocking feature launch the IE browser, select About Internet Explorer under the Help menu, and compare the version information for your browser to the information in Figure 1 for references to XP and SP 2.

Creating Exceptions to Pop-up Blocking: If you are using IE 6 with XP and SP2 applied, creating an exception to default pop-up blocking is a simple 2-step procedure:

  1. Launch the IE browser and select Tools → Pop-up Blocker → Pop-up Blocker Settings.
  2. Enter the address of web site (URL) to allow (i.e. www.fenland.gov.uk) and click the Add button. Click the Close button to complete the settings.
