Fenland District Council's Local Plan

The general aim of the Local Plan is to promote the continued growth and prosperity of Fenland while balancing the interests of development and conservation. This Plan provides Fenland, for the first time, with a framework of detailed, local land use planning policies. The policies and proposals of the Plan will guide and control development of the District up to the year 2001.

The Plan provides extensive opportunities for new residential and industrial development while opening up the possibility for further retail and recreational developments.

It also includes policies aimed at protecting Fenland’s unique countryside from unnecessary and visually intrusive developments and safeguarding the character of Fenland’s attractive towns and villages.

The District has been the subject of increasing development pressures in recent years and I consider that this Plan will greatly assist the District Council, as Local Planning Authority, in the difficult decisions which have to be made to guide and control development in the interests of the Fenland community as a whole.
