Golden Age Fairs

Our ground-breaking Golden Age Fairs provide help and guidance for people aged over 60 in their own villages, and are delivered with the support of over 50 partners. You can access a wide range of services - from benefits advice to fire safety - and it also gives you a great opportunity to meet new people.

Many villages in Fenland are isolated with poor transport links, making it difficult for residents, the elderly in particular, to access information and services. With the support of our many outside agencies, the Fairs provide the opportunity for Fenland's over 60's community to lead healthier, safer and easier lives.

Since the fairs began in November 2003, we have held thirteen Golden Age Fairs to date - in Christchurch, Coates, Friday Bridge, Doddington, Tydd St. Giles, Manea, Parson Drove, Leverington, Wimblington and Wisbech St Mary.
They have all been very successful and over 5000 visitors have come through the doors in all.

One important aspect is the resulting financial benefits to local residents from energy saving equipment and advice, free bus passes and, in some cases, thousands of pounds in unclaimed benefits. These Fairs could not happen without the support of our partners who are many and varied. More information about our partners can be found on our website.

The Fairs are hosted by the local Parish Council and are generally held in village halls from 4:30-7.00pm. Refreshments are also organised by the Golden Age Catering Team the event and these are provided free to visitors.

At a Golden Age fair, you will find a broad cross-section of services including the police and fire services, Age Concern, the CAB, Alzheimer's Society, St John Ambulance, energy advice, benefits information, sport for the over 60s and many more. Additionally, the evening is an excellent social event, as well as an access event. Please enjoy browsing the Golden Age information and services section of the website and we hope to meet you at a Golden Age Fair in the future.
