Skills for Growth

Fenland District Council is working with a range of partners to help improve skills levels for future economic growth and prosperity.

Economic growth in Fenland is restricted in some sectors as a result of skills shortages. This does not only impact on those industries, but Fenland as a whole, because the economic strength and diversity of the area is limited and other areas of the UK will be more able to compete in national and global markets. Fenland District Council and a range of partners including the Fenland 14-19 Partnership, the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce and business leaders are working together to help raise skills levels and ensure local young people move into prosperous careers in the district.

The FEE project was launched in January 2012 and aims to improve employability skills among young people while they are still in full-time education through a range of activities linking local businesses in to secondary schools. There is a dedicated FEE project manager to ensure both businesses and schools get the maximum benefit out of the project and are fully supported to participate. Call Katie Hart on 07891 308050 for an informal chat and more information.

If you are a local businessperson who has struggled to find people with the right skills for your company, who wants to know more about work going on to improve skills levels locally, or who could contribute to improving employability skills among young people, please feel free to chat to a member of the Economic Development team at Fenland District Council, who would be very happy to hear from you.
