Stray Dogs, Aggressive Dogs and Education
This service deals mostly with stray dogs, but may also be involved with aggressive dogs and education in schools
Stray Dogs:
This service deals mostly with stray dogs, but may also be involved with aggressive dogs and education in schools (regarding responsible dog ownership).
- If you find a stray dog then the first thing to do is look to see if it has an identity tag. With a name and phone number. If it does, contact the owner and arrange for the owner to collect it.
- If you cannot identify the dog's owner then contact the Council on telephone 01354 654321, or e-mail us at environmentalservicerequests@fenland.gov.uk . The dog warden will then contact you and arrange to collect the dog.
- If you want to report a stray dog outside of office hours, then again, telephone 01354 654321, or e-mail us at environmentalservicerequests@fenland.gov.uk . You will be asked if you can take the dog to our out of hours reception point, in Wisbech. If this is not possible, you will be asked if you can keep the dog until the next working day when the Dog Warden will collect the dog from your home.
- Please note: the Council has a contract with kennels near Wisbech to look after stray dogs. A dog is kept in kennels for seven clear days (referred to as legal stray time). If the dog remains unclaimed after this time it will be made available for rehoming to the public. All stray dogs are checked for identification on arrival at the kennels, including scanning the dog for micro-chips.
- A dog taken into kennels as a stray will only be returned to its owner upon payment of all fees, fines, charges and costs incurred. These are £33.00 plus £9.35 kennelling fees per day or part day. Any veterinary or other costs incurred will also be charged to the dog owner.
- Please note, the police no longer accept stray dogs from the public at any police station.
- The dog warden service may also be able to help you if you have lost your dog. Please contact the Council (telephone 01354 654321, or e-mail us at environmentalservicerequests@fenland.gov.uk). You will be asked to give a clear description of the dog, the time and location of the loss, and whether the dog has any identification. If we have any information that may help you find your dog then we will contact you.

Aggressive Dogs:
The Dog warden service also deals with aggressive dogs. If you have concerns about a dog behaving aggressively then contact the Council (as per details above) and we will let you know what we can do to help.
