Noise Nuisance

Noise of all types - neighbours, businesses, entertainment, etc. What is reasonable, and what is not.

Noise Nuisance

Day-to-day some of us have to put up with noise that we do not like. When the noise becomes a real irritation and you cannot find a way of dealing with it yourself, the Council may be able to help.

The Council can help if the noise is considered to be unreasonable and regularly disrupts your quality of life.

When can we help? Some examples...

Dog Barking

Dog howling/barking for long periods of time throughout the day or night - maybe because it has been left on its own.

Demolition

Excessive noise from factories, or maybe construction sites, outside of the normal working day.

Man With Drill

Neighbours regularly making excessive noise for long periods of time, especially early in the morning, late in the day, or at weekends. If the noise disturbs your everyday living then it may well be considered unreasonable.  For example, you cannot hear your TV in the evening because of a neighbour's DIY projects.

... so what do I do next?

  • Firstly try talking to the person(s) responsible for making the noise; they may not realise they are affecting you so badly.
  • If this doesn't work, then contact the Council on 01354 654321, or environmentalservicerequests@fenland.gov.uk

When are we unable to help? Some examples...

  • Your neighbour doing some noisy DIY, but doing it in the middle of the day, and only now and again.
  • The neighbours have a party. It's noisy, and carries on rather late, but it's a one-off.
  • The local pub has a band playing.  It's loud, but doesn't go on into the early hours, and at the end of the night everyone leaves quietly.
  • You have a railway line nearby and you can hear the noise from the trains as they pass by.

... so what am I supposed to do?

  • Firstly try the direct approach
  • But if you find you cannot resolve the problem yourself, then please give us a call and we may be able to offer useful advice on how to tackle the problem.
