Street Pride

How we work with you to make your community a great place in which to live. Get Involved now!

New volunteers are always welcome, please come and help the group volunteers, it a great way of meeting like minded people who want to make the local area they live in, a better place for everyone. Its great fun, hard work, but very rewarding!

Since April 2011 to the end March 2012, there have been over 200 events and over 4000 volunteer hours have been donated.

There are a number of schools involved with Street Pride, including

  • Payne Primary School, Parson Drove
  • Wisbech St Mary Primary
  • Friday Bridge Primary

Local Businesses involved; Helping to improve the local community are Commercial Utility Brokers, (CUB) March and McDonald's, Wisbech

Friends of March Railway Station (FOMRS); a group of volunteers who are working together to restore the rooms on Platform 2 for community use. For more information please go to the FOMRS page

Norwood Road Nature Reserve, March; a group of volunteers are now working at the reserve. For more information, please go to the Norwood Road page.

Friends of Station Road Cemetery; a small group of volunteers who are helping to maintain the cemetery.

Street Pride Awards; these are awarded at the annual Street Pride Celebration event. The categories and winners of the awards this year are;

  • Best Clean up; Probation Service for the work on Cromwell Road in Wisbech (Cutting back of the trees/bushes)
  • Best Clean up; Gorefield Street Pride Group for painting out the graffiti on the village pavilion.
  • Best Community Project; March Street Pride and Commercial Utility Brokers (CUB) for being the first business to get involved with the group on projects in March.
  • Best Community Project; Parson Drove Street Pride Group for work to support the Green Communities project.
  • Best Heritage Project; FOMRS for the continued work at the station.
  • Most Events; Whittlesey Street Pride Group.
  • Best Conservation Project; Norwood Road Nature Reserve volunteers for making the reserve accessible to the public
  • Best use of Sustainable Planting; Wisbech Street Pride Group for work in St Peter's car park, Wisbech Hospital and Chapel Road car park entrance.
  • Best Youth Project; Junior FEET - NACRO for work at Norwood Road Nature Reserve.
  • Best Youth Project; Manea Street Pride Group for work with the Manea Primary school art competition.

Next year there will be a new award. This will be the Pride of Place Award. Each group will need to nominate a project that they take great pride in. These will be judged by Cllr Peter Murphy and the Street Pride Co-ordinator. The winner will receive a plaque and a suitable prize for their group.
