Health and Safety Services
Do you need information on Health and Safety? Or maybe you want to attend a Health and Safety training course? If so the Council can help you.
The Council's Health and Safety at Work Services
Our Health and Safety Officers work in the Food and Safety Team.
They carry out regular health and safety inspections on offices, shops, food premises, and leisure activities
Health and Safety Inspections
Health and safety inspections are often carried out without prior notification to the owner of the business. The higher risk premises are visited more frequently.
During an inspection, officers need to be:
Satisfied that any hazards to health, safety and welfare, have been identified
Satisfied that the risks in the workplace are adequately controlled
Satisfied of the level of health and safety training of managers and employees
The need for Health and Safety Risk Assessments in your Workplace
What are risk assessments?
A risk assessment is simply a careful examination of what, in your work, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken enough precautions or should do more to prevent harm. Workers and others have a right to be protected from harm caused by a failure to take reasonable control measures.
