Fenland Neighbourhood Planning Vision
A Fantastic Future for Fenland
We care passionately about Fenland as a place to live, work and visit and you will all know from our Corporate Plan that we want to improve the quality of life for all of our residents. We already work in partnership to address the needs of the local community, but we now want to look at the really big picture which is why one of our key priorities is Neighbourhood planning.
The district is expected to grow significantly over the next 20 years and beyond, and therefore it needs to be ready to accommodate this growth in a sustainable way. This growth will not only be in housing and population but also in economic activity and infrastructure.
Social and environmental aspects are equally important as the Council and its partners address health inequalities, education and skills deficits, an ageing population and additional migration into Fenland along with the impact of climate change.
The aim of this project is to create a vision that will inform the activities and investment of key public and private sector businesses over the next 20 years and into the future. To find out more and to hear from some of the key public organisations backing this project.

It is accepted that to address all the issues Fenland faces, FDC can not do it alone, therefore key partners such as Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC), East of England Development Agency (EEDA), Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), National Health Service Cambridgeshire (NHS Cambs), Government Office for the East of England (Go East), the Police Authority and the Fenland Strategic Partnership (FSP) are supporting this project.
A holistic partnership approach to forward planning services and the social, economic, environmental and physical infrastructure is needed to identify the needs and opportunities required in order to maximise the potential of the district. The results of which could shape an enhanced Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS). We have been able to commission AECOM Design and Planning to support and deliver the project.
AECOM (made up of a professional and experienced multi disciplined team) will support not only the visioning exercise but also deliver key strategic pieces of work that will develop and test out options to inform the future SCS and the evolving Local Development Framework (LDF).
It is anticipated that the project outcomes will fit into and inform the LDF work that continues as an integral part of shaping the district. The LDF will be used as a tool for the delivery of a pro-active and sustainable Council led approach to development in Fenland.
