Community and Living

community and living

FDC covers approximately 200 square miles within the County of Cambridgeshire. Fenland is a rural and sparsely populated district with many diverse communities, each who have very different needs. We aim to support all our residents, especially our large elderly population, to help improve the quality of life for everyone within our District.  Below are just a few projects that have helped to make life easier for our residents.

  • Local residents said they wanted to speak to all public sector organisations at the same time, so Fenland developed a programme of Community Fairs. There's no more boring public meetings, instead there's fun, interactive fairs, which provide practical information and empower the average person on the street to get involved in decision making. 96% of people enjoyed the events.
  • Our Mobile Gym, only the 2nd of its kind in the country, goes to our rural and most deprived areas to increase exercise and improve health.
  • The total of benefits potentially found for elderly residents through our Golden Age Fairs is over £467,000 helping to support some of our most vulnerable residents.
  • Through our work supporting schools we have increased participation in free school meals by 15%, helping vulnerable families and increasing school funding.
  • We support our diverse communities through Migrant Population Advisers who speak community languages in our one stop shops. A New Arrivals Welcome Pack also provides useful information on life in Fenland.
  • 30,000 local school children attended sessions with our specially trained sports coaches.

In this section you'll find a whole range of information about living in Fenland and its community.
