Networking event will discuss ideas for business growth

Growing a business through tenders, branding, effective web design and new product development will be the topics up for discussion at the next free business networking event in Chatteris.

South Fens Business Centre

Organised by Fenland District Council and its economic development arm, Fenland for Business, the event will be held at the South Fens Business Centre on Tuesday, September 5, from 10.30am to 12 noon.

The session is part of a series of bi-monthly meetings launched in April this year that aim to help local businesses meet, work together and discuss local challenges, with the added bonus of hearing from expert guest speakers on topical business issues.

Attendees will also be able to discuss any professional or business challenges and opportunities with representatives from the Economic Development team at Fenland District Council.

September's speakers will include:

  • eXceeding - a leading bid writing company, eXceeding will be sharing some top tips on writing winning tenders and how delegates can get their company bid-ready.

  • TinFish Creative - this local award winning digital marketing agency will discuss business branding and the importance of website design in winning customers.

  • Anglia Ruskin University - working with Innovate UK, Anglia Ruskin University has launched 'Keep +' to connect small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with academic expertise, access to the university's research and development capabilities as well as other businesses. The University will be talking about 'Keep +' as well as its Knowledge Exchanges (also known as Knowledge Transfer Partnerships), sponsored by Innovate UK, which are collaborations between an organisation, a graduate from any university, and Anglia Ruskin University who will offer consulting support. Knowledge Exchanges can help businesses improve their profitability and competitive advantage, identify new markets, and even enhance the development and design of new products.

Going forward, the sessions will continue to tackle different challenges and opportunities faced by local businesses and will be held bi-monthly in Chatteris. The last event held in June attracted around 30 delegates and focused on skills development and apprenticeships in Fenland.

Cllr Ralph Butcher, Portfolio Holder for Growth at Fenland District Council, said: "In talking with businesses, the Fenland for Business team know that business growth is one of the biggest challenges amongst local organisations.

"We've been very pleased with the turnout at previous events and the speakers continue to show the expertise that's available in Fenland to help companies and the wider economy grow."

Attendance at the event is free of charge but delegates are encouraged to register ahead of the event. Register for a free place at Fenland for Business
