Industry experts The Society of IT Managers (Socitm) gave three out of four stars overall in its latest 'Better Connected' review, rating it a 'good' website.

The score is up from two stars in 2016 and one star in 2015, demonstrating that the council's digital interaction with customers is continually improving.

The website's performance when accessed from mobile devices was even rated among the best this year, scooping the maximum four stars.

The 'Better Connected' Review tests every local authority website to see if customers can complete popular tasks online, use the website on their mobile and find the information they are looking for.

Ongoing improvements to Fenland District Council's website are being made as part of its Channel Shift project. Improvements have included the introduction of more than 40 online forms which allow customers to apply and pay for council services, and report issues, at a time that suits them. The website has also been made 'responsive', meaning that content automatically formats to fit a computer, mobile or tablet screen.

Councillor Michelle Tanfield, the Council's Portfolio Holder for Communications, said: "This is excellent endorsement of our website from independent assessors. We had over 501,000 visits to our website last year and this review shows that we are doing the right things to help our residents interact with the council.

"The review findings confirm that simple navigation and jargon-free language are massively improving our website experience - and helping people get the information they need with minimum fuss.

"As part of the Channel Shift project, we will continue to investigate other ways we can improve our website as increasing numbers of residents go online to make a greater range of transactions with us."
