Season's greetings to one and all

A Christmas message from Councillor Carol Cox, Chairman of Fenland District Council

FDC Chairman Cllr Carol Cox

I would like to send everyone in Fenland Season's Greetings and good wishes for the New Year.

Since becoming chairman of the council in May last year I have enjoyed the role tremendously, with all the support and encouragement I have received from everyone  and particularly from my deputy chairman, Kay Mayor.

There have been many highlights for me over the past year. Three of the most memorable have been the Commonwealth "Fly the Flag" event in March, the Civic Reception I held in July, and September's "Fly the Red Ensign Day" for the Merchant Navy.

Also, once again I have been privileged to represent the council on various occasions in honour of those who serve - or have served - in our armed forces.

I was delighted to host a coffee morning in September in aid of the local branches of the Royal British Legion, which raised £260. And last month I was very proud to take part in the Remembrance Day parades in Wisbech and Chatteris, which were, as always, very poignant ceremonies.

My own Christmas celebrations began earlier this month with attendance at various carol concerts. Our annual Community Carol Service, held St Peter and St Paul's Church in Wisbech on December 11, was another wonderful occasion.

I wish each and every one in Fenland best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
