Have your say on 'Wisbech's future'

A two-day consultation event in the town last weekend, September 9-10, launched a new consultation where residents can have their say on the Wisbech 2020 Vision project and the idea for an expanded "garden town".

Scores of people visited the display stand that was set up in the Market Place on Friday and Saturday. They were asked to say what they liked most about the town at the moment, what they thought most needed improving and whether they supported the garden town proposal.

The stand was manned by representatives from Fenland District Council, Wisbech Town Council and the Wisbech Society. They included town council leader Councillor David Oliver on both days.

Cllr Oliver, who is also an FDC Cabinet member, said: "It is vital that everyone responsible for delivering the Wisbech 2020 Vision keeps in close touch with the views, concerns and aspirations of the people who live and work here. This kind of face-to-face contact is really useful in helping us to do that.

"We're very pleased with the overall response we got. Most of the people who approached us recognised the many good things about the town and rejected the negative image too often portrayed in the media. That's not to say that they didn't also highlight what they saw as the main problems.

We would like as many local people's views as possible so would encourage the community to  . The survey will stay open until Friday 7 October.
