Learn how to operate life-saving defibrillators

A defibrillator is a life-saving bit of equipment - and you can learn how to use one at an evening course taking place in March this month (July).

The four-hour course, which will also teach other resuscitation skills, will be held at the George Campbell Centre on Friday, July 15 (6-10pm). It is open to anyone aged 16-plus and costs £50.

Successful candidates will gain a qualification certificate from the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS).

There are now 15 debrillators sited at various locations around March following a campaign orchestrated  by Councillor Rob Skoulding during his tenure as Mayor. Other towns also have some.

The course will be run by Caroline Ormiston, a member of Fenland District Council's New Vision Fitness staff. Another one is planned for September.

Councillor Michelle Tanfield, the council's Cabinet member responsible for leisure, said: "Our leisure centre staff are already fully trained in the use of the machines and other life-saving techniques. We're keen to extend that knowledge into the wider community and give people the confidence that they can help in an emergency."
