Mapping out a smarter way to travel

A new, pocket-sized map of Wisbech has been produced to encourage people to walk, cycle or take a bus instead of using their cars.

It says that getting around on foot or by bike is often quicker than driving, as well as being healthier and better for the environment.

The Wisbech Active Travel Map has been produced in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council as part of the Wisbech Travel Choices programme.

It shows roughly how long it takes to walk or cycle from points all around the town to the centre. It also gives details of the designated cycle routes and paths and lists all the town's bus services.

Councillor Simon King, Fenland District Council's Cabinet member responsible for transport, said: "The Travel Choices programme is all about getting people to walk, cycle or use public transport wherever possible.

"Small changes can make a big difference in improving people's health, easing traffic congestion and reducing our overall carbon footprint.

"This map and the extra information that goes with it will help people make those small changes - and it hasn't cost Fenland District Council anything."

Copies of the map are available at various places in the town, including the Fenland @ your service shop, the Hudson Centre and the Horsefair and Wisbech Information Centres.
