Waving the flags beside the seaside

Some of the stalwarts who help to make Wisbech a serial environmental award winner came together last week (October 7) to celebrate gaining - yet again - two Green Flags.

Green Flag 2015

They included representatives of the town's In Bloom and Street Pride groups, members of the Friends of St Peter's Church Gardens, Councillor Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council's Cabinet member responsible for the environment, and council staff.

It is the eighth year running that St Peter's Church Gardens and Wisbech Park have been awarded the Green Flags after being judged two of the UK's best open spaces by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The group gathered by the "Wisbeach Beside the Seaside" display at St Peter's, part of the entry which also helped to win the church's gardens Anglia In Bloom's "Best Park 2015" award.

Cllr Murphy said: "It seems that I say this every year but it's true and it needs saying. Once again Wisbech has done itself proud and this beach garden, in particular, is out of this world. So many congratulations and thanks to all the people who continue to put in so much hard work year in, year out, to keep the gardens and the park - and the whole town - looking as good as they do."
