Wisbech keeps its green flags flying - again!

For the eighth year running Wisbech Park and St Peter's Church Gardens have been judged to be two of the UK's best open spaces.

They will again be entitled to fly the Green Flag, awarded by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department of Communities and Local Government.

The flag is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Councillor Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council's Cabinet member responsible for the environment, said: "We're obviously delighted to get these awards yet again. It's thanks to the great efforts by our own staff, our grounds maintenance contractors The Landscape Group and all the volunteers that both these beautiful places continue to be recognised like this year after year. Long may it continue!"

This year's 1,582 award winners were revealed last week (July 23). The announcement coincided with Love Parks Week (July 24-August 2), an annual celebration of the UK's green spaces and the local authorities and community groups that look after them.
