Volunteers' help sought to improve healthcare

Wanted: volunteers to help improve health and social care services in Fenland by finding out what local people think about current provision.

Healthwatch Cambridgeshire wants to learn more about what is good about existing services and where they could be better.

It is currently looking in detail at local care homes, mental health services, dental care and access to screening appointments, as well as NHS 111 and out-of-hours GP care.

Healthwatch is an independent organisation whose job is to make sure that people have a say when important decisions are made about their local services.

Sandie Smith, its chief executive, said: "We are looking for volunteers in Fenland to help us with this work. If you like meeting people and listening to their stories, this is the perfect role for you."

She also urged people to contact Healthwatch direct. "Your experiences and opinions can help to shape local services, so they work better for you, your family and others in your community," she said.

"If you have an experience to share about these or any other local care service, please do get in touch. We share this information with the people who make decisions about our care, in a way that doesn't identify you.

"We are also happy to come and talk to your local group about our work, so contact us if you would like us to send a speaker."
