Dancing to the music of World War II

The spirit of wartime Britain is set to be revived at a series of events being held in Fenland to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

They kicked off last Friday (May 8) with a VE Day tea dance at the GER Sports Club in March that featured music and songs from the 1940s as well as spam sandwiches and jelly.

The event was organised by the Royal British Legion Women's Section.

More anniversary celebrations are planned over the summer as part of the Home Front programme being coordinated by Cambridgeshire County Council.

They include a dance evening in Doddington (May 16), a big celebration in Wisbech on Armed Forces Day (June 21), a street party in March (July 19) and a film show in Chatteris (August 8). The Wimblington Summer Show on July 5 will also have a wartime theme.
