Businesses can get broadband cash aid

More than 3,000 Fenland businesses could benefit from a voucher scheme aimed at helping them to get connected to superfast broadband.

Special connection vouchers, worth between £100 and £3,000, are on offer to small and medium-sized businesses to pay for the one-off cost of installing superfast broadband at their offices. Charities and social enterprises are also eligible.

The vouchers can be had through a scheme run by Connecting Cambridgeshire, a partnership of local authorities, and funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

They were previously only available to Cambridge and the surrounding area, but Connecting Cambridgeshire has been able to work with government to extend the scheme across the whole county.

Groups of businesses can apply together for vouchers and pool the funding. This enables a whole office block or business park to be upgraded.

Superfast broadband has already been installed to some parts of Fenland towns, including Whittlesey, March and Wisbech.

Connecting Cambridgeshire's business support project, Destination Digital, has helped more than 700 businesses across Cambridgeshire to use digital technology.

• Businesses can find out more about the vouchers and apply online on the Destination Digital website:
